Bonus Room Makeover

I’ll be the first to admit, that I’m not a redo/renovation person. You know, like the people who can turn other people’s junk into just about anything useful while making it look like they paid thousands of dollars for it? Yeah, that’s NOT me! And although I love shows like Fixer Upper, Flip or Flop and Flea Market Flip, when it comes to even thinking about doing some type of DIY project, my brain draws an absolute blank. But I’m really trying to change that. It’s like our house is screaming at me “DO SOMETHING, PLEASE! CHANGE SOMETHING!” And although our house is less than 5 years old, I would like to do certain tweaks to it… Starting with our bonus room upstairs! My husband currently has his pool table in it however, we’ve decided to change it into a playroom for our children. AND before you start thinking “Wow, how could she just change his room up like that”, my husband is the one that said it was okay to do.

One of the reasons why I would like to convert the bonus room into the playroom is because I’m TIREDDDDD of my kids having their toys all over of our living room floor. As soon as I clean the toys up, my 2 year old has found a new toy that he wants to play with and you guessed it, it ends up on the living room floor. And now since he’s able to go up and down the stairs safely, we believe it’s the perfect time to transition. So at this present moment, the bonus room consists of two recliners, our pool table and a desk with my desktop computer on top of it. We’re going to paint the bonus room, put in some storage bins for organization to store some toys and make it as kid friendly as possible. Over the summer, James installed fans in all of the rooms upstairs, so thankfully that’s one less thing that we have to do. When we originally agreed to put the play room upstairs, I was so excited that I even did a blueprint. My first ever blueprint! Please don’t laugh.

Now, we are on a TIGHT timeline and budget with this project. When I say tight, I’m talking like… less than 20 days to complete it! I would like for it to be completed as part of the kids Christmas gift. That way their new toys can go upstairs to their new home. That also means that I’ll have to start clearing out some of their old toys to make room for more. James works a lot of hours but thankfully he’s off a good much this month. Painting is the first thing on the list. Have I mentioned that I’ve never painted a room before? Yeah, sooooo, i’ll be looking at a lot of tutorials. Thankfully the room isn’t huge and there’s not a lot of things that we have to move around. The other day when James and our daughter went over to my parents house for a quick visit, I went upstairs and started placing the blue tape on the baseboards and doors. I didn’t get finished but i’m basically 80% there. And for the paint, I had to go and google some paint ideas because I had no idea what color I wanted, so I have a couple of colors in mind.

We’re not trying to spend a lot of money on this so thankfully we don’t have to get much. I’m excited to get this project both started and finished. Thankfully it’s something that I know we can complete and not mess up. Can’t wait to show you the finished project in a couple of weeks! I’ll also have the breakdown of prices in case someone else in interested in a slight makeover in their home. Did I mention that I’m excited for the project? Now don’t get me wrong? I’m so thankful that my children have a nice and safe place to play however, I’m so happy that place is going to be upstairs!
