Happy New Year Everyone! I hope that you all had a blessed Christmas! Can you believe it’s 2020?! My apologies for the late post regarding our playroom update. To be totally honest, I got slightly overwhelmed and literally had to take a break. But I must say that I’m proud of myself for getting back to it. My word for this year is “consistency” and I’m determined to practice this word… basically in my everyday living. Sooooo, let’s talk about this playroom. I’m happy to report that it’s 75% done as of today. And honestly, I’m really proud of it so far! The majority of our kids toys are in the playroom now and my living room really looks like it was intended to look, which is like a living room! My dad came over the other day and even said “Boy this living room looks so much different with all of those toys out of the way.” Which I agreed with 110 percent! The kids and I are actually in their playroom as a type this update… I’m at my desk typing away and they are playing with their toys. It didn’t take my husband too long to remove the pool table out of the room and we decided to leave one of the recliners in the playroom for anyone who wants to relax. We moved the other recliner downstairs.
So let’s talk paint color. I wanted a bright color in this space because it gets basically NO natural lighting in it and my favorite color is yellow, so it seemed like a win, win to choose yellow as our color for the room. A color that will hopefully feel welcoming to everyone who enters the room. I chose the color Spun Honey Yellow that I purchased from Lowes. To be completely honest, when we first started painting, I was slightly nervous and may have even thought to myself, “what have I done?” But a couple of days after we finished and it completely dried, I realized that I am totally in love with it! Also, with this room being upstairs and in the playroom, I felt safe with this color. We all know that yellow can sometimes be “too much” and slightly overbearing and I had to keep that in mind.
I now have a computer station! I knew that I would be upstairs in the playroom with the kids the majority of the time and so I wanted, or should I say “needed” an area for myself. I researched some desks online and came across this wall mounted desk and I knew that I had to have it! It was actually on sale online on walmart.com! I must say that I’m glad that James was in charge of this project because those parts gave me a slight headache! Whew! I am so glad that I have a husband who doesn’t mind putting things together. The desk purchase was a success and it takes up less space than a regular desk! Now, I want to find something to place my printer on… but I have something in mind.
Next on the list is to get shelving for toy organization. I’ve been eyeing some shelving from Ikea and have found something that I like. So, I’m going to be ordering that next! I want some type of area rug to tie in with my wall color as well. We’ve also been discussing if we should do a chalkboard wall or not and I’m basically going back and forth with the idea. I’m weighing out the pros and cons and so we’ll hopefully have an answer after we get our shelving in place.
So, that’s basically how far we’ve come with this project! Hopefully our playroom will be completely finished soon… Which brings me to what I’ve learned from this whole experience…
* Don’t put a timeline on things. I felt SOOOO much pressure from this and ended up getting overwhelmed to the point where I thought about quitting. Things take time… Don’t rush!
* There are many, many, many paint colors out there… so just choose a color and go from there. That way, if you know that you want the purple color, you’ll just have to focus on what color shade of purple you would like. I kept going back and forth with MANY colors and that only made it harder on myself.
* Make sure that to have enough paint supplies. Paint brushes, etc. I slightly underestimated this and by the time I realized we needed more, the project was almost completed and I was not trying to go back to Lowes for more. We live in the country and it takes effort for me to hop in the car and go to town.
I must admit that I was a little bummed that things didn’t get done in the timeframe that I wanted… BUT whenever my daughter looks over at me and says “Mommy, this is the best room ever” it makes me feel 100% better! This will be so worth it! Can’t wait to show you more!
Looking great! Keep it up!
We’ve been redoing Wen’s office at the church. Megan made him go through EVERY drawer, file and filing cabinet. Had a TON of paperwork we threw out and next will be downloading stuff into the “cloud.” Feels great!!
Thanks!
I can actually picture the two of them cleaning things out. Was Mr Wen trying to hold on to receipts from 1990 while Megan was telling him “Nooooo”? Lol!
I love it! So proud of you for sticking to it. Take your time. I cant wait to see it in person lol
Thanks Kim! Lol… Hopefully, you’ll stop by soon!
Gm keep up the good work everything will turn out great
